I LOVE deep discussions and meta, but for specific fandoms. There are plenty of fandoms I enjoy but don't have the same enthusiasm for or don't have as much to say about. Not every piece of media is exactly complex enough for you to pick apart and speculate endlessly about either.
Gen fic is good too, but I almost never see it.
So yea, the vast majority of fic I read is ship fic, and I feel like that's the case for quite a lot of fandom.

And media that isn't clear-cut and leaves things open to interpretation is often much easier to chat about in length. That or things that raise moral questions, or that challenge you to look at something from a different POV.
