No, not weird, but incredibly insensitive. You should get a cat from a shelter because that cat needs a home and a caretaker, not because you need something pretty in your home.

I'm wondering if you care about the cat's needs at all. Please consider your motives closely, and if your doing this for anything other than the cat's best, don't.

TBH most people get a cat 'cause they want a pet, not to "save" it.
