Someone I trusted complimented our mutual friends: A is the best person I've met in my life! B is so funny! so I asked them, what about me? Though, now that I think on it, I can understand how it might carry a sting if those were their only mutual friends, so that OP's friend had a good word for all their mutual friends but her.

That sucks, nonny. But this is why we have to be careful in asking other people for their honest opinion of us because sometimes... we get their honest opinion.

Yup. A friend of mine once asked me to honestly tell her whether I thought she was pretty. She'd already been honest with me about the fact that another one of our mutual friends was prettier than me, so I knew we were for real about the whole "be honest" thing. So I told her no. I told her I thought her personality was attractive (she's extremely smart, and quite funny), and I made sure to stress that I thought that counted for more in the long run than just looks. But still, I straight up told her I didn't think she was pretty. Luckily we're still friends, but I suspect she's still hanging onto that and may have a bit of a grudge about it.
