why

(Anonymous) 2015-12-08 01:09 am (UTC)(link)
do people act so weird or get faux offended when I say I don't like chocolate, especially chocolate cake? Why is this such a weirdly controversial opinion of mine?

(My roommate is bugging me about it and its honestly getting on my nerves :/)

Re: why

(Anonymous) 2015-12-08 01:10 am (UTC)(link)
Because most people do, and many people can't process someone not liking a thing that they like, and everyone else they know likes. See also: kittens, religion, bacon.

Re: why

(Anonymous) 2015-12-08 01:13 am (UTC)(link)
I don't think kittens belong in that list. I've never seen anyone get death threats or have their sexual orientation questioned for saying they don't like kittens.

Bacon fans and religion fans are way, way more touchy than kitten fans.

There are corners of the internet who despise kitten pictures. I'm not completely sure why they are on the internet.

I'm indifferent to cats and would not want one in my house and people have been weird about it.

Re: why

(Anonymous) 2015-12-08 02:13 am (UTC)(link)
I personally think it's weird when people say they hate cats or dogs, or are otherwise emphatic that they dislike them.

But indifferent or not interested in them, or just don't personally want them, is understandable.

I disagree. I don't like animals (they trigger my OCD. Germs.) and whenever I mention that I don't like cats or dogs people will straight-out look at me like I'm some kind of unfeeling monster who just admitted to murdering babies for fun.

man as someone who likes bacon just fine people who act that was about bacon are really obnoxious to me too. Like, calm down? Its just cured pork.

Add strawberries to that.

Re: why

(Anonymous) 2015-12-08 01:19 am (UTC)(link)
...chocolate covered?!

Re: why

+1

Raspberries are vastly superior.

Re: why

(Anonymous) 2015-12-08 05:28 pm (UTC)(link)
yeah, I don't like strawberries at all and so many people are all like "how can you not?! what's wrong with you?" (I fucking love chocolate but I would never give anybody a hard time for not liking it. The world would be a very boring place if everyone liked the same things.)

Re: why

Probably because chocolate is such a universally liked sweet that it can be odd to those who love it when they come across people who hate it.

I admit, I will give people the O_o look when I run into someone who hates it, but I won't make a huge deal out it.

Now, I'll admit, I don't much care for Dark Chocolate. I hate that it's not sweet at all and just so bitter. Bleh. I know it's better for you, but no. Gimme all the milk chocolate and I'm happy.

(I react the same way when I come across people who never watched the Disney films of the 90s, or the old cartoon shows of the 90s, or Star Wars, or even Star Trek. Though with those I try not to get weird about it. Though it's a bit hard when it's someone who's a friend and I wanna share said things with them.)

I never watched Disney films or anything else aimed at kids in the 90s because I was not a kid in the 90s.

See, Disney is so prevalent that no matter when you were born (grew up in the 80s, 90s, 2000s, even before the 80s), that having not seen them in that 30+ year period is just weird. Especially since they've been released and re-released so many times since they were first released in theaters.

Re: why

(Anonymous) 2015-12-09 03:51 pm (UTC)(link)
but I stopped watching kids' movies once I wasn't a kid anymore.

Just say it's more for her. Usually gets people off my case when I mention I'm not a chocolate fan.

EXACTLY. Give me your chocolate and I will love you.

Re: why

[personal profile] elaminator 2015-12-08 01:34 am (UTC)(link)
I think sometimes it's just difficult for people to contemplate you don't like this thing that they like SO much, and maybe they want to be able to share that love with you.

But it isn't a big deal and I don't know why anyone would bother you about it. If there was chocolate and you didn't want the chocolate, frankly I'd be glad because it would mean more chocolate for me.

Re: why

(Anonymous) 2015-12-08 01:38 am (UTC)(link)
No, I don't think anyone ACTUALLY cares. But when you're having a conversation with someone, you overreact and exaggerate just for the rapport and banter. If you tell someone you don't like chocolate and they say "omg, you're kidding! How is that possible?!?!" I guarantee they don't actually care and they aren't actually offended.

Re: why

(Anonymous) 2015-12-08 04:12 am (UTC)(link)
+1 It's usually meant as a lighthearted teasing.

no I get that they're not actually offended (why I said faux offended) but its when people who know me and have known me and have known I don't like chocolate just. keep. doing. the same. gag. Like, please let it go.

It's unusual, but not bad?

My boyfriend doesn't like chocolate. My response is basically "more for me".

They suck. Chocolate is not very good.
