He could have easily died though? He could have ingested too much or had a really, really bad reaction.

(Anonymous) 2015-12-09 12:28 am (UTC)(link)
Right? It's only "not fatal" in this context because it didn't actually kill him. It certainly could have.

[personal profile] herpymcderp 2015-12-08 11:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Non-fatal.

You keep using that word, but lily of the valley has an LD50 of 0.8mg/kg. He could easily have killed the kid.

(Anonymous) 2015-12-08 11:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Context and comparison issue most likely. Walt is up there in evilness on the Breaking Bad scale. Jaime is average-to-mediocre evil at best compared to what everyone else around him is doing.

(Anonymous) 2015-12-09 12:01 am (UTC)(link)
Also, Walt's was way more calculating and he only got worse as the show went on.

(Anonymous) 2015-12-09 12:03 am (UTC)(link)
Yup. It's not that the actions were better or worse, it's that there are so much more worse actions than Jaime Lannister's to focus on in GoT that he gets overshadowed.

Spoilers for ASoIaF and GoT

Book Jaime is doing a pretty swift 180 on the whole evil Lannister thing, so...
pretty much the polar opposite of Walter White's progression.

Re: Spoilers for ASoIaF and GoT

(Anonymous) 2015-12-09 12:15 am (UTC)(link)
Yup. But even before that, everyone else was doing much more horrible stuff so I understand fans giving him a pass because there's so many other worse villains. He's fairly average as far as morality goes in GoT whereas Walt stands out more as awful.

It's been awhile, but I thought his reason for poisoning Brock was to manipulate Jesse into staying in his control. He knew Jesse didn't want to work with him anymore, but by letting Jesse think Gus was attacking those he cared about, he could get Jesse on his side again. Or am I misremembering?

[personal profile] herpymcderp 2015-12-09 12:12 am (UTC)(link)
You're not. That was his proximal goal. The long game was the winning the war Gus, the short game was manipulating Jesse to gain back his loyalty.

(Anonymous) 2015-12-09 08:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Exactly!

(Anonymous) 2015-12-09 01:52 am (UTC)(link)
You are.

The episode before Walt did it Gus THREATENED TO KILL HIS ENTIRE FAMILY, including his infant daughter. Walt goes to get money to get his family new identities only to find out that Skyler spent it all. He goes into hysterics.

It was only after that did Walt go the Jesse route.

I haven't watched this show and I have no idea what the context here is, but it bugs me when people make these sorts of cross-fandom comparisons. Not everyone who's watched Show X is also necessarily familiar with Show Y, why would you compare the actions of a character from X to the actions of a character from Y instead of comparing two characters from the same show?

(Anonymous) 2015-12-09 12:33 am (UTC)(link)
This. For God's sake, this.

Because poisoning an innocent kid is objectively a bad thing to do, maybe? Also, wtf does Jaime Lannister have to do with it.

Spoilers for ASoIaF/GoT

[personal profile] herpymcderp 2015-12-09 12:13 am (UTC)(link)
Jaime threw a kid out of a window from a giant tower. So, the child harming comparison is pretty on point really.

I know that, I've read all the books and seen all the seasons of the show. I just thought it was weird that op brought GoT into the mix.

He poisoned a child with something that could have killed the kid. If he really was just out to save his family and not make more drug money, he would have turned himself in for witness protection.

You do know that the "people" who like one may not be the same people who hate the othrr.

People overreacting to bad things Walt did?

This idea does not compute....

(Anonymous) 2015-12-09 02:52 am (UTC)(link)
This secret should be more about people giving Jamie shit than implying Walt deserves a free pass because Jamie's magical golden penis gets him a lot of fandom sympathy.

(Anonymous) 2015-12-09 05:52 am (UTC)(link)
you really need to watch the show more closely. Walt ESTIMATED how much poison wouldn't be fatal, and you can tell when he starts crying at the news Brock will be okay that he wasn't completely sure about giving the right dose or not. he was completely gambling with the kid's life for his own goals and to control Jesse.

(Anonymous) 2015-12-09 08:24 pm (UTC)(link)
Walter White defenders are wild.

(Anonymous) 2015-12-09 08:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, because Walter never before gambled with the life of an innocent person or let them die for his own selfish goals. Oh wait.
