I've only seen the first Captain America movie (and found it kind of dull), and I still laugh at the name "Bucky". What a terrible name.

If it's the South in you, it's the South in me too. Bucky doesn't strike me as an odd nickname at all.

It is so a southern thing. I'm from the South too and I'm like "Sounds like a reasonable nickname to me."

Must be the South in me, too. It doesn't seem odd to me, especially in the '20s-'40s, which is the time period when Bucky got the nickname.

Maybe it's a southern thing, yeah. I grew up in NY and never heard of such a name/nickname before. It sounds more like something you'd tease a kid about if they had odd teeth (bucktooth).

Like, seriously, If I'd go on a date with him (and yes I have imagined this scenario) I'd actual really have to get used to calling someone that.

Then again I also had to get used to my bf's name so oh well.

Since it's a diminutive for Buchanan, his middle name. The other people I've known with Buck or Bucky as a nickname, were named William or Robert or Charles or something like that. It's actually not an uncommon nickname.

I've actually known three different people who went by Bucky. They were all juniors or thirds and didn't want to be called some variant of John Boy or Junior or whatever.

I hope you get your wish, OP. It would make you happy and my dash would maybe stop shaking and crying about him all the time (even blacklisting does not help).
I was always in the camp of 'Why would any fandom make you hate one character', but this one is seriously testing me (and I really liked him before).
People keep whining about how they want a Captain America to be about Captain America, but somehow the same people just talk (or rather, cry) about Bucky all the time. :/
This does not mean that I don't want him to be part of the movie. I think the dynamic could potentially be very interesting, but I'm as tired of Bucky as other people are by Tony (whom I can take or leave, but don't mind in general depending on what they're doing with him). I'm aware that it's not comparable from the screentime alone, but it somehow happened.

Well, in their defense, the CA films have always had a focus on Steve and Bucky that is pretty exclusive to this series so it still pretty much falls under the category of a 'just Captain America' film.

The way so much of fandom feels about Tony is totally the way I feel about Bucky. Like, he's okay in the films but his comic counterpart is SO much more interesting and I'm just so done hearing about him constantly to the point where it's really ruined my enjoyment of MCU fandom as a whole.

Haha, an appropriate reaction, for sure. (Bucky deserves a fucking break from all the fighting and tragedy and abuse. I hope he gets one after this film. Shut up, I already know that's impossible. If he doesn't end up moving in with Steve, I'll head-canon it.)

My mind was filled with "!!!" and stunned awe, then the last scene made me gasp and cheer (Steve and Bucky teaming up! That shield pass was hot). I'm glad the trailer focused so much on them.
