Me tooooo~
I'm a huge fan of Tolkien and have been for nearly my entire life, and I do think that there were things about the Hobbit movies that could have been handled better, but I went in expecting a different tone than LotR because the tone of the book was different, so I wasn't as shocked or horrified that it wasn't the same kind of movie as LotR. What it was was just the kind of movies that I would have wet my pants with joy over when I was still a bit too young to fully appreciate the LotR movies, which is probably why I enjoyed it so much. It was like all of my 10 year old dreams coming true, including Tauriel, who was EXACTLY my childhood-fantasy-self-insert-imaginary-character come to life. I couldn't NOT become passionately attached to a character and a set of movies which so nearly perfectly fulfilled all my childhood fantasies. Except for Alfred, who could have stood a bit of role reduction in the 3rd film. But whatevs, I didn't feel that it ruined the movie.

My only gripe with Tauriel is that they needed to give her her own proper battle scene, and I was angry at the production that they didn't.

My one gripe with her was the romance and the love triangle. I liked the badass side of her.

I was slightly okay with the romance. I thought it wasn't very well done, but there was something sweet about it anyway. But since she didn't get anything really significant to do in the endgame, I felt that it weakened the point of her existence in the story.

But yes, the love triangle can go fuck right off.

Agreed. After the effort of making her a character, they could've done more with her in the last battle. Instead, we got more silly Legolas fight scenes...

Tbh, love her though I did, I was kind of hoping for an epic death scene for her where she, idk, sees Kili get taken down and goes flying in there to defend him but gets overwhelmed and they die together. I just couldn't see it making much sense for her to survive since she doesn't appear (obviously) in LotR.

Given how many of the Dwarfs died in that battle, I would have been very okay with her having her own epic death scene, or like you say, them dying together. It would have worked within the story, and at least been more dramatic than what we got...
