You think the Avengers was an good movie? Really?

Lots of people do. For starters, it has a 92% critic score and a 91% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. There's nothing wrong with not liking The Avengers, but talking down to someone who likes the movie, and acting shocked that they have an opinion that agrees with the vast majority of critic and audience opinions? That just makes you look petty and foolish. "Whaa! The majority opinion is not with me on this and I can't accept that! Whaa!"

I liked Avengers in a "it's enjoyable" kind of way and I don't judge anyone for liking it, but that's not the same as thinking of it as a good movie, which it isn't.
OOC dialogue, Whedon doing his usual thing without any originality or giving a damn about the characters, etc.

Personally, I preferred the characterizations in The Avengers to most of the characterizations in the independent Marvel films. I also didn't really find them that much different, for the most part; IMO Joss just brought out the best in everybody, as he is very good at doing.

I also thought he did a phenomenal job of giving focus, cohesion, and heart to a film that, in less skilled hands, would have been almost impossible to wrangle into shape.

But then, I don't read graphic novels, of any kind, ever, so I have zero attachment to that side of things, which undoubtedly does make a big difference in how one feels about the movies. For me it's just, "Is this a good film?" To which I answer, unequivocally, yes. I don't care how well or horribly it incorporates comic book canon; for me that's a separate issue. Though I can see how, for invested fans of the comics, it's not a separate issue.
