I can totally understand this being an issue for you. The adoption storyline on OUAT did not work for me either.

I am not caught up on Supergirl, but I feel like the situation is different from OUAT for example. Kara was adopted when she was a young girl and definitly has memories of her parents. I think it is acually not unusual for people that were adopted later in life to adress their adoptive parents by their given names, for example. Maybe the writers were going for something like that?
