I feel a little confused about the crappy stories bit. Do you purposefully write bad fic and post it to see people's reactions? Or do you feel that you put much more effort into writing for your prefered pairing?

Not OP but, sometimes you look back at what you've written and recognize it's just not as good as you'd thought/hoped. And consider that it's strange how many kudos and comments and pleadings for a sequel that it has.

Yes, this was what I meant! (OP here)
The number of kudos and comments for some stories just have me shaking my head.

DA

It's definitely about the effort to reward ratio for me. It varies to a hilarious degree.

Yes, that and whether I subjectively think a story turned out well.

OP

No, I'm not quite that bitter yet. XD
I was talking about stories that are written in the middle of a challenge when I want to write something for all the prompts but my energy is waning or plotbunnies that just want to be written without too much effort being put into them. Or stories that turn out to be okay but not quite as well as I imagined them. That kind of thing as opposed to stories I put a lot of effort into and am proud of.

But writing bad fic about the popular pairing just to see if it still gets more enthusiastic responses would be an interesting experiment... XD

I've done that - and yes, it did :( I tried doing a fic for the juggernaut pairing in my fandom - and didn't even edit for errors or try to keep consistent and in character. Just churned it out in a few hours.

My other gen or rarepair fics for the same fandom are always well plotted, edited for grammar etc. and I do my best to keep consistent and in character. Writing careful outlines first.

Guess what - my gen or rarepair fics are lucky to get a couple faves and maybe one or two reviews. The bad one for the juggernaut got 35 faves and lots of reviews :(
