Yep. ;) The Fili/Kili used to annoy me too, but I think it's gotten less or I've gotten better at avoiding it.

No, but this kind of thing probably is even worse in the Sherlock fandom (I'm not as involved in it as I once was...).

This is every fandom with a super popular pairing, and as someone who used to write rare pairs a lot, I do agree with the general sentiment. I don't know what else you'd expect though.

I think what annoys me most is that the fandom started out fairly diverse but now, most things are about the super popular pairing. I miss the old times... XD

Hey mind twin! We talked about this secret last week, but man, I'm getting so bitter that I starting brainstorming fics for the juggernaut pairing instead of working on fics for my ignored otp.

Yeah, I occasionally write about the juggernaut pairing if I want some more feedback than usual (and sometimes I do just have a plotbunny about them), but I do like to go back to my other pairings. There are a few people who appreciate those as well, after all.

I feel a little confused about the crappy stories bit. Do you purposefully write bad fic and post it to see people's reactions? Or do you feel that you put much more effort into writing for your prefered pairing?

Not OP but, sometimes you look back at what you've written and recognize it's just not as good as you'd thought/hoped. And consider that it's strange how many kudos and comments and pleadings for a sequel that it has.

Yeah, I walked into the fandom ready to ship them but after a combination of RP and some time away in Dragon Age I got bored of them. I don't really read fic in the Hobbit fandom anymore because it's either Bagginshield, Kíli/Tauriel or includes Thranduil. I dislike Thranduil and I have a ship for Kíli (and not Fíli either - RP made me ship him with Thorin).

I know I also felt somewhat similar back when I was in the Transformers fandom. The juggernaut pairing there, I read plenty of fics about it because they were there, but it was hardly my favourite ship. My ship was rare enough not to be common but never seemed to get the "rare pair" tag.

Sometimes I forget Bagginshield isn't canon due to its sheer overwhelming presence in the fandom.

If this is Yeaka, you are the best thing for rare pairs in Hobbit fandom, by far. I love your wildly various ways of how Kili and Tauriel progress after falling for each other -- the last one with the non-compatible gentiles, was a giggle but also thought provoking.

I know how you feel. I'm completely indifferent to Bagginshield, they are not my cup of tea at all. And sometimes it feels as though people take it for granted that the whole fandom ships them. Finding some Bilbo/Balin to read is quite a quest.
