I have yet to see anyone lumping this show in with media that depicts rape badly. What I have seen is people saying they're not interested in this show because all the focus on rape would squick or trigger them, no matter how tastefully and realistically it's dealt with.

Personally, that's why I'm not interested. I don't want to watch a show that revolves around rape. It could be the most sensitively handled fictional depiction of rape ever written; I still wouldn't want to watch it.

I've seen my fair share of that too, which is fair enough. Rape is an extremely painful subject for many people and if they don't want to sit through a show that largely deals with trauma caused by rape and abuse, that's fine by me. They shouldn't have to.
