I really dislike the implication that a woman has to kick ass in some way, shape or form to be a strong character. Showing "only" mental strenght doesn't make Arwen weaker.

Besides, she and Luthien were in completely different situations, so why make it a thing of competition?

Male superheroes always seem to take a weird almost sexual glee in commiting violence against women. Almost as much as male comic creators take in showing it.

I have yet to see anyone lumping this show in with media that depicts rape badly. What I have seen is people saying they're not interested in this show because all the focus on rape would squick or trigger them, no matter how tastefully and realistically it's dealt with.

Personally, that's why I'm not interested. I don't want to watch a show that revolves around rape. It could be the most sensitively handled fictional depiction of rape ever written; I still wouldn't want to watch it.

I'll be a bad fan with you, because the last season was my favourite one since Davies' run, and I outright adored the last 3 episodes. Those were all I ever wanted from Doctor Who.

While I like Matt Smith, I hated everything about the timey-wimey-fun-for-toddlers-don't-need-explanation-or-overarching-storyline-episodes.
