Wait, were they really sexualized in the movie?

I know the anime really focused on their nice swimmers bodies, but the context and attitude about it never made it felt sexualized. Even Gou admiring everyones muscles was purely for it's aesthetic appeal.

I mean, that image of Haru in the OP is a bit weird, but in general I never noticed overtly 'lewd' fanservice for these characters.

Maybe it's one of those things that if you are depraved enough to see it, you will find it anywhere.

Hahahaha, no. It was a failure. The film opened in 120 theatres but only made 90 million yen. Other anime movies that opened on 120 screens (like Madoka or Love Live) made 300-400 millions. It didn't live up to the expectations theaters at all. It didn't even manage to meet half it expected earnings in it's opening weekend. Not only that, it couldn't beat other shows that are less popular, with less screens and lesser advertising therefore making it a flop and an embarrassment.

Overestimation at its finest. Should have opened on 60 or 70 screens.
