Not having an idea worth writing

My brain.

I'm considering expanding into a series a fic that took a side character who is rarely mentioned or seen and made them genderqueer and just starting to really explore their options outside of always presenting as their sex.

But I'm really nervous of backlash for not going all the way trans with them and for having chunks of it from the POV of the cishet male supporting character who's a reasonably big part of the source material.

Basically, I'm afraid of a whole lot of "ur doin' it wrong!"

I fear nothing. I'm just extremely lazy and that's why I'm not working on a new chapter.

Various things, but specifically fears: trying to figure out how to write an encounter between the U.S. military and a nonhuman force. There are so many things I could get wrong about military rules, behavior, and tactics that I'm not even sure where to start asking questions. (I'm thinking of doing it from the nonhuman perspective just so I can craft the pre-encounter parts myself.)

something my mother said about a week ago that didn't even have anything to do with writing but killed my self esteem anyway :\

Not a fear per se, but what is crippling my creativity is that my spouse of many years admitted the other day that they have never looked at any of the over 200 pieces I've written over the past 12 years. Not. Even. ONE. They haven't even thought about looking at any.

It surprised me because they always seems to be interested/paying attention when I've talked to them now and again about piees I'm working on.

I had no idea that I'd be so crushed by this.

(While I do write some erotica and slash, I write a lot of gen, humor and het -- both fanfiction and original works.)

Oh please. Grow up and get over it. My husband's never been interested in reading my work, nor do I expect him to. Just because you're married to someone doesn't mean that you have to share everything as a common interest.

Wow, bitter much?

Just because you have a shitty marriage doesn't mean everyone else has to be content.

I feel like I'm slipping away further and further away from something I haven't finished. That I've debated way too much with myself in regards to a plot point that I've ruined the direction of the story and soured it and now I don't trust my ability to come up with a solution for the changes.

Anxiety. It's been dampening my creative abilities for years now. It, along with ADHD, also make it harder for me to thread ideas together coherently. So I currently have all these ideas and plot bunnies bouncing around my head, but I can't get them out on paper without it looking like a hot mess.

The fact that I'm writing Age of Sail. I feel as if I'm taking several degree courses at once.
