Not to mention there are people who do various kinds of manual labor for a living that can keep them in pretty good shape without a lot of extra work on the side.

Maybe not impossible, but there can be obstacles, and if you're lazy enough, those are enough to make it seem out of reach. Small apartment: can't fit a treadmill. Bad neighborhood: can't run at night. Bad weather: can't bike to work. Etc..

That's just cardio. There's a lot of other workouts that doesn't require a lot of space.

True, but cardio's typically what people think of when they hear the word exercise.

Are you sure he isn't shilling for some gym he works at?

Sounds like one of those people who think they can have horrible habits outside the gym and then enter the sacred temple of testosterone and magically undo it all in 20 minutes of lifting.

I did know someone kind of like this. He was somewhat mystified to meet someone quite thin who doesn't strenuously work out (I cannot do much because of chronic illness; walking and swimming are good). Once we actually became fb friends, I soon saw all the gym selfies. On the other hand, he was also casually trying to get in my pants, so there's that.

Never trust anyone who says they're "quite thin" on the internet.

Um. Well. There's two ways to interpret your cheery comment.

1.) That you think I'm lying about being thin. But why? What do I stand to gain if I somehow ~tricked F!S into thinking my build was something other than that it is? Anyway I've shared a couple pics of myself on F!S in the past, so there's proof of my actual height and build.

2.) That you think I'm pulling some kind of humblebrag, I guess. I mentioned it because it was pertinent to a conversation about fitness, and men's perceptions of women's (I'm assuming OP is female here) fitness. And as I mentioned my chronic illness, it's not like I'm even somehow obliquely conflating being thin with being healthy.
