I disagree absolutely. Apart from wizarding culture generally being cavalier and selfish, there is nothing to support such a conclusion. They're not aliens, they're just erratically-characterised jackasses.

You must have a hard time with lots of fiction then, considering there are entire genres where you have to accept that in their reality, routinely being killed and coming back to life is normal and holds no consequences for the person responsible.

AYRT: Oh, piss off. I said "erratically-characterised", not "oh the rules of this universe are so incomprehensible to my tiny brain". Internal consistency is a thing that lots and lots of fantasy and science fiction has managed, and just because Rowling was making it up as she went along doesn't mean that the readers have to turn their critical thinking faculties off.

Hogwarts is the safest place in the world! Apart from the unfenced forest right next to it that's so full of horrors that it's literally called 'The Forbidden Forest'. And the Whomping Willow. And the grindylows in the lake. And that one time the teachers put a three-headed dog behind a door a first-year could unlock. And the complete lack of oversight.
But it's also the best school in the wizarding world! None of the staff seem to have any training as teachers, of course; and students are constantly getting injured; and the Defense Against Things That Want You Dead class is about as reliable as a house made of jelly; and several of the teachers were hired because the Headmaster wanted them about and not because of any actual ability on their part... oh, and forget learning maths, English, geography, science, or any history that's not endless goblin rebellions.
Have fun finding a job in the non-magical world! You might be treated like shit for being muggle-born, but you're stuck here for life!

lol I love this comment. I love Harry Potter too, but this is so true, even if I didn't think about it as I was reading them.

(Now I wonder if any wizards, particularly Muggle-born ones, have Muggle jobs)

And "relative morals" it's such a lazy concept... +1
