I don't have a problem with the idea of safe spaces, but if people can't handle college material without being triggered, then they aren't college material.

My PhD would disagree. Note that I still took courses that dealt with triggers like rape, harassment, homophobia, and abuse. I found ways to handle the material and manage my symptoms, made possible by instructors who understood how difficult that material is for some people.

Something that pops to mind is that it's really curious the double-standard around this between veterans and abuse survivors who deal with PTSD.

EDIT: Because seriously, the things that trigger a PTSD reaction for me were elective parts of my curriculum and not central to any of my professional certifications. They're not a part of my job either.

If you got through college then you can obviously handle the material and what I said doesn't apply to you.

Which isn't what you actually wrote. Am I triggered by some things in the college classroom? Yes. Do I manage symptoms so that I can deal with that content? Yes. Other students work with worse problems.

What I wrote: ...if people can't handle college material without being triggered, then they aren't college material.

What I also wrote: If you got through college then you can obviously handle the material and what I said doesn't apply to you.

It's not that hard to understand.

Except that cbrachyrhynchos is talking about two separate processes that you're conflating. You're saying "if you can't handle the material without being triggered, you' don't belong in college." But they were triggered AND they handled it, which is a possibility you don't seem to have allowed for.
