5. My favorite fandom secret EVER. Hey, I believe jesus was a bisexual. I mean, if we are created in his image than how do we have heterosexuals, bisexuals, and homosexuals? :D <3

9. I agree. If you're going to hate it, have a better reason to. Personally I dislike the art style and the story wasn't to my liking, but that doesn't make me stupid. It's just an opinion based on my own tastes; it annoys me however when people state their opinions as solid fact for everyone to live by. It's disrespectful for the fans and the series itself.

"Two weird girls, and we're talking SERIOUSLY fruit loops here, are dragged from the midst of a Maury and pizza lunch into the world of Kingdom Hearts?"

If thinking that's crap makes me pretentious, I'll gladly be pretentious. There's some good writing there. But it's rare.

5. I've wanted to do the same thing with Kingdom Hearts, seriously. A character analysis, plot analysis, morals, ethics, what have you. Seriously. Alas, the chance has not come up yet and I don't think it ever will since I want to go into Nursing. XD

6. I'M GOING TO HELL WITH YOU. SHARE THE SMUT WITH ME.

9. :| Seriously? Death Note is alright but it just lost my interest after like three books. I dunno, I just... don't care for the characters. The story is really interesting though. The only character I really liked was Ryuuk and that's because of one of the crack comics on the back of one of the English mangas. "ADVANCE SP! ADVANCE SP! I WANT MY GAME BOY ADVANCE SP!"

15. LOL I still don't know or care who she is, yet I hear so much bitching and wank about her it's not even funny. OK, someone explain, what is everyone's problem with this woman?

5. I'd just like to say, as someone who has gotten a 4.0 in a class where I compared Kerrigan to Hera, fandom makes difficult projects enjoyable. I would not have done as well, scholastically, if not for fandom.

6. Mmmm, Biblical incestuous slash. Good stuff, right there.

4. It makes me sickly happy ... it probably shouldn't.

5. I submitted LotR fanfic for my British Lit II class. My professor loved it. And I even left all the slashy undertones in it.

9. I don't like Death Note and I am none of the above.

15. Ehm ... I kind of know Adella and I have no idea where you're getting your info from. She's a very nice person. Because she's well known a lot of people dislike her. I know that some people have said that she's not entirely nice to them. Well ... coming from someone who still to this day gets hounded by emails and such for Rufus Shinra cosplay tips, it gets old. If people were well balanced, normal individuals and not rabid annoying fanpersons it wouldn't matter. Ehm ... yeah. That secret was really unnecessary and rude. You kind of suck. Kthx.

(Anonymous) 2007-02-13 10:34 am (UTC)(link)
Nice to those who kiss her ass, full of attitude when you try to do something she didn't think of. I didn't make the secret but I did meet her when I cosplayed Aeris too and she was downright rude. The way she looks down on you is pretty obvious so I'm going to agree. I don't think she's ugly. I just think she needs an attitude check. Then again, we can say that for a lot of people so it's pointless saying it. o o;

2. I completely disagree with this. I'm not the greatest lover of sap and fluff, I won't read it if it comprises the entirety of a story. However, I tend to view fanfiction the same way I do the novels that I buy at the bookstore. Whenever I pick up a book, my knowledge of the contents comes from the blurb on the back cover. It gives me a general idea of the story. It doesn't tell me everything that happens. It doesn't lay out which characters live, which die, and which suffer some kind of trauma. That would take away the enjoyment of reading the book. OUr lives don't come with warnings; we don't know that in Chapter 10 our best friend dies or that 11 chapters later we'll be losing the love of our life to cancer. An argument can be made that that's one of the reasons that life sucks, and I'll be the first to champion such an argument. And maybe I'm holding fanfiction to too high a standard, expecting to find some of it to be as well-written as the authors who get paid to write their stories. But warnings that take all the mystery and discovery out of stories negate the whole purpose of reading them. At least to me.

14. When I was younger, I used to believe that the lives of the characters I read about existed in some other reality. That authors were granted this look into the lives of these people, through dreams or flashes of imagination, and then wrote books about them. I guess I just wanted to believe that the people I'd grown to love were real.

15. I have no idea who this is. I've never met her, and I don't read forums, journals, or whatever else people use to discuss cosplay-related things. But looking at this picture, I have to say that I think she makes a fantastic Aeris. The world of cosplay seems to have as much drama and nonsense as the world of fandom, which is a shame. I always thought the point of cosplaying was to express creativity through making costumes and having fun through a shared love of something. Apparently not. But I still think her portrayal of Aeris is great.

(Anonymous) 2007-02-13 12:27 pm (UTC)(link)
#15

Her portrayal is great. But when she tries to insist that Aeris and Sephiroth are ONE TRUE LOVES!!!!1111!!! and bashes you for suggesting anything otherwise, being as well known as she is will surely backfire in her own face.

The secret isn't about her portrayal. It's about her attitude to fans who respect her and see that she's nothing she makes herself out to be.

2. Eh, took a bit of thinking, but... I really don't know how you're going to do that - if you're talking about ff.net, that is. What with the summary character restriction and all that. I kind of understand what you're talking about but you can usually get it from the summary itself. If the summary talks about some bright happy thing, you can usually assume it's fluff and all that.

But, truly - angst, sap and fluff... Sometimes these are part of the plot, and you can't really warn against it.
