The point when things get brain-breaking is when people go "even if they're aged-up, it's still icky fetishization of children!"

It's like...are you aware of how the human aging process works.

Is this a really controversial opinion? I mean I can see where people would be creeped out by the concept and that's ok but actively judging others for finding adults sexy just because you see them in canon at a different point in their life is kinda weird to me.

Sadly, I see where the OP is coming from. It may be from a minority, but they're a vocal minority. Like people thinking adult fanfic writers/fanartists should not still ship teenagers, even if the person writing/drawing was a teenager themselves when they started shipping said pairing.

According to those people, it's still pedophilia, even if you've aged the characters up well beyond legal age in any part of the world. Heck, one fairly popular fanartist in one of my fandoms got a piece of art pulled from deviantart for depicting a character that is commonly aged up with her shirt gaping a bit more than strictly necessary.

So yeah, they're out there.

Oh yeah. In the Naruto fandom, Kakashi/Sakura is HUGE. It's my OTP in that fandom. But the amount of people yelling and saying we're pedos for shipping them is astounding. The majority of us LOVE older!Sakura/Kakashi. There are VERY few fics I've read over the years that have her at 16-17 and that is usually a BIG DEAL in said fic. Otherwise, she's a legal consenting adult.

But that doesn't matter to those folks. They'd rather see her in an emotionally abusive relationship than a healthy one that just so happens to have an age gap to it.

Do you have recs? I've been interested in this pairing, but I've not been able to find any fics so far I really liked. Most of the one's I've run into so far are lower quality or have the plot based around her cheating on Sasuke.

Oh I have a few.

One of them is House of Crows. VERY good, very long. But it's rather depressing.

Double Edge. This one plays with the age thing a bit more as Sakura is 16. But it's still very good.

I'm currently coming up blank right now as I'm on break at work. I'll post a few more when I get up later today.

I don't know much about Naruto but I would think people would have a problem with it not because of the age gap but...wasn't Kakashi her teacher? That would skeeve me right out.

Eh, most to us don't really care about that. Especially since he never really taught her when she was 12-13. Then she went off and got trained by Tsunade. After they became a team again, he wasn't so much her teacher as her leader. They were all basically equals at that point, but he did have the experience of seasoned shinobi, hence why he was the leader.

And of course there are places in which 16-17 is in fact the age of consent, so those fics (especially if everyone involved in the sex is the same age) are in fact zero problem, depending on local laws.

I think that doesn't even matter. When it's a fantasy world? We have no idea what the fantasy world's consent laws are like. With a series and world like Naruto, with children being trained to kill from such a young age and the fact that war is pretty imminent, a lot, I'd think the age of consent is probably at least 15-16. You can freakin' die for your village as young as 13, why not be with someone?
