The whole "you're a peeerv/HARASSING a minor" for disagreeing bullshit really pisses me off.

It's crying wolf. But it ends up effecting more than just them because it'll make it harder to believe for some people when a minor actually gets bullied or harassed by an older person.

People's first thought will be "oh THIS again" .

If you're over certain age, yo shouldn't be getting into fights with kids. They can't argue back on the same level, their brains are not equipped for it. Just let them be, or if you're seriously, seriously affected by some dumb kid being wrong on the internet, write an essay or something. Otherwise don't be surprised when the kid you're arguing with acts like a kid.

This is why I don't want to interact with teens online at all. I don't want them following me, I don't want them reading my fic, I don't want them messaging me, any of that. Obviously, this is impossible to control.

But if someone under 18 is actually harrassing someone or spreading libel like "pedo", you bet I'm reporting them for abuse to whatever service we're on. Being a kid is not a free pass for that shit - the teenage years are when you LEARN how to behave like a rational human, and you'll never learn that if you aren't called out on lousy behavior.

Ugh, I know, I wish I could change the settings of my AO3 and twitter so only people +18 can read my stuff. The other day my porn fic got a comment from someone who was very obviously a minor. I felt so dirty.

What's really wrong with addressing kids' bad behavior and telling them to knock that shit off?

Hey, if you have the patience to deal with them, more power to you. Personally I think it's a waste of time. If someone is immature enough to start screaming 'pedo' at the first sign of disagreement, nothing short of bullying them into submission is going to change their minds.

Just block them and ignore them.

It's the Internet, if people wanna argue with kids saying stupid shit, they're gonna do it, it doesn't matter what they should or shouldn't do. That's nice you wanna tell people how to Internet and that you are so, so mature, but ultimately people react in different ways and if they think having an argument with a kid because they're sick of their shit will do anything, they do what they want.

You're mistaking 'should' with 'can happen'. If you argue with a kid you'll get immature reactions. It's not fair. It's not what 'should' happen. It's what happens.

As if no one gets in a discussion with someone, gets blasted for being a pervert and then finds out "oh they're a kid".

On the internet people don't magically know who you are and all your details. And people aren't always going to check someone's blog for every detail about them and what might upset them whenever they get in a debate.

Okay, but no one deserves to called a pedo regardless of the age of the person they are arguing with. You can be as callous as you want about it, but if you think calling someone a pedo because they dared call you out on something is okay because you are underage, then you are a horrible person and all my sympathies for that person who was called a pedo. Slander and libel are also illegal where I come from, so yeah.

This person is trying really hard to spin it as if everybody who gets in a disagreement when a bratty teen and accused of something must have known they were getting in an argument with a kid to begin with.

It's kinda stupid especially after ages of kids in fandom claiming to be an adult and pretending as such. As if people always check the blogs/info of someone before even talking with them.
