there's a 16-year-old in one of my fandoms who is moderating a NSFW/porn fan event...

when people approached the other mods to say it probably wasn't appropriate for them to involve a minor in a porn event, they said it wasn't their job to be her mom. And ok sure but...you knowingly invited her...knowing she's underage.

If this were a 25 year old guy inviting a girl 10 years his junior to read porn with him, fandom would be a LOT more up-in-arms, and yet these weirdos have so many people supporting them...

That's just not right.

It's easy to step back and wash your hands because it's the internet and you don't have to look the other person in the eye, but would those (presumably adult) mods meet up in person with a 16-year-old and just give them random porn to look at?

If they'd do it in person as well, in that case then they should probably take a step back and think about how that would look to that 16-year-old's parents, and perhaps the police.

Yeah, they're definitely in the wrong here. No, I am not responsible for mothering every teenager on the internet, but no way in hell am I inviting a teenager to a porn discussion, either.

And yeah, teenagers know about porn and look at it online...but there's a vast difference between them choosing to go on a site of their own accord and adults encouraging them to go there.
