On one hand I could totally imagine two people who are pushed to be so psychologically intimate developing a friendship that feels like something else but isn't in such a short time...but I'm also pretty sure the hint of romance was what they were going for. I couldn't possibly give a fuck either way though since finding respectful and interesting het relationships is about as common as fully platonic m/f. Which is partly why I hate the part of fandom that clings to these ambiguous examples and acts like the absence of evidence is the evidence of absence when both friendship and romance are expressed in about a thousand different ways aside from movie clichés and gosh, those tend to overlap a lot!

Not that I found Mako and Raleigh all that interesting, but I can see why people ship them.
