tbh if you are looking for it, you will find romantic hints everywhere. That is why shipping is such a huge thing in general.

Lots of people could find "romantic" undertones in male/male or female/female friendship even though they are non canonly gay.

In my opinion, a strong friendship is the ideal start for a good romance anyways. True it's only het relationships that turn romantic in mainstream movies, but I think elements of a platonic relationship and elements of a romantic relationship can overlap a lot. The only difference is the platonic relationships typically doesn't have kissing or sex involved.
