Crossovers

[personal profile] philstar22 2015-12-16 12:44 am (UTC)(link)
I've been reading this Doctor Who/Silmarillion crossover that started out really good but has gone downhill really fast.

So I'm looking for some good crossovers featuring fantasy fandoms with fandoms who don't have magic that get it right.

What I mean is, Doctor Who is kind of anti-magic (sort of), and this author dealt with that by making elven immortality and all the magic of Middle Earth be actually technology (probably Time Lord though they haven't gotten that far yet). That feels really wrong to me, so I'm looking for crossovers that manage to be faithful to both fandoms.

Actually, though, I'll take any good crossovers.

Til I Met You(BtVS/7th Heaven)by cyren2132: Starts a bit like a 7H parody but then gets deeply serious. http://archiveofourown.org/works/701934/chapters/1294073

Crumpets Aren't My Style (Stargate SG-1/Harry Potter) by Marz1: The SG franchise isn't exactly mundane, but it's never dealt with this type of magic. This is my favorite crossover of all time. OF ALL TIME. https://www.fanfiction.net/s/1995083/1/Crumpets-Aren-t-My-Style

I love the Phantom Tollbooth too. It's one of the handful of books from my childhood I kept.

Oh yes, indeed. Phantom Tollbooth, The Changeling, Black and Blue Magic, and of course Secret Garden/Little Princess.

Hell yeah, Secret Garden.

I've never heard of Black and Blue Magic before. What is it about?

OH, so very fun.
Harry Houdini Marco is facing a long, boring summer until he meets a wizard who gives him the gift of flight. Except he doesn't know how to *do* that, getting bruised and scraped up in his adventures. (Hence the 'black and blue' part.)

By Zilpha Keatly Snyder, who also wrote The Changeling, which is just as amazing. Mousy Martha meets Ivy, who claims to be a changeling. The two girls couldn't be more different, but they become best friends, living in a world of magic and imagination. Loved this book so much, too! :)

They may be at your local library, but you can also get them from Ms Snyder's website, they've recently been reissued (they were written in the early seventies).

The Phantom Tollbooth and Little Princess were two of my favorite childhood books (along with the Oz books and the Anne of Green Gables books).

Loooove Anne of Green Gables. I also read and re-read all the Little House books.
