I think it boils down to Megatron being a scary warlord and Getaway being a sleazy creep. "I've spent so much time grooming him." Good grief.

getaway's a sleazy creep but i don't know if he's any worse than every other PTSD-ridden nutjob (lol) in the series. while his REASONS are understandable, he's not justified in his actions, but i do think peoples priorities are wacky in jumping to burn this guy at the stake, when megatron has done SO much worse. i'm sure this was intentional, but early on in season 2, getaway even mentions how the greater the scope of the crime, the harder it is to internalize. it was probably foreshadowing for how his own crime would be received. i also think it would probably behoove mtmte's themes that his motivations are further humanized at some point in the future to blur the lines of morality, as the narrative so often does.

anyway i dunno, i love all the characters a lot. i just think the fans really forget that mtmte is all about the shades of gray rather than the black & white. lol i hope you liked my impromptu essay

not the same anon

It just kinda occured to me we actually had a lot of insight in the mind of Megatron in season 2. S2 has a lot about him, his feels and past, and even thought it doesn't mean he stoped suddenly being a genocidal warlord who's a monster and guilty and all, we at least see his actions and feelings in a lot of different situations. It's really easy to try to understand him, to be sympathetic, to guess what's going on with him, and even if we don't know yet of his plans and all we can assume at least some of his actions and feelings in S2 are genuine.

Getaway though? We don't know the real Getaway. It's not so much about people forgeting about mtmte telling of the shades of grey - it's people realising they can't tell the shades in Getaway, if there even ARE any (ofc there probably are, it's Roberts, but yeah). We have this nice character revealed doing the horrible thing by acting a certain way during most of the season, then realise everything he ever told can't be cheked, and that Skids had lost his memories of Getaway the same way Whirl just did in #47. At the same time we have no way of knowing what Getaway feels, which is real and which is not when it comes to him. In other words, for now, he's a liar who never really did anything good (not counting some off-fighting when on the LL in Dark Cybertron and other little stuff, I guess?). This thing with Tailgate is Getaway's first big ark, and as much as I agree with you about him turning out a complicated character in the end, I kinda understand the agression too. I think at this point people who like Getaway hope for the reveal of his true self/past history/motivation/anything really so that he can truly be the "shades of grey" character mtmte likes to tell us about, but I kinda can't blame people who hate on him - for now there's very little to love of him. Eh, remember hate (not as much as Getaway got, but there were for sure) Brainstorm got after poisoning the crew, and then the tons of love he got after the TWIST? Bet same will happen to Getaway, you just wait. =)

(Also, triggering Megatron into violence? I kinda see how that can make tumblr-crowd like Megs more than Getaway.)

Boo Cygate. Sexualizing Tailgate the baby with the tutor: gross.

I'm not saying it to harsh your squee. I'm pointing out that what thrills you ills me, and vice versa. Chill on the __(insert issue, fav character, ship here)___ and enjoy the drama.

Megatron is a bot that started with good intentions a few million years ago, then went off the rails.

Then he came to his senses and stood ready to pay the price. Then he was bombarded with reminders of both what he'd given up when he went bad, and the atrocities he'd committed - given both a reason to live, and a reason why that life has to end, and before too long.

That's a perfect formula for a woobie ex-villain - a good person, gone astray, genuine remorse and deep tragedy. The enormity of what he did makes a true redemption difficult, but...

Getaway...may, eventually, get that. But right now, he's just a bot who tried to manipulate a naif into unknowingly sacrificing himself for a cause he doesn't understand, and may or may not agree with.

He's got the '(arguably) good intentions causing bad acts' part. The rest, not so much. Unlike Megatron, he may eventually be able to balance his bad acts with good, but also unlike Megatron, there's not much in the way of evidence that he even believes he did wrong.

There's also the fact, of course, that Getaway's creepy grooming of Tailgate is a lot easier to process - being personal, rather than astronomical - and much more like something the average reader of the book may have personally experienced.

I guess it's more that a lot of the fandom is getting creeper vibes from Getaway, while it's universally known that Megatron is an asshole.

Mind you I kind of got creeper vibes from him when he first popped up and kept trying to convince Skids of their history together but that's just me. I'm an outlier and probably shouldn't be counted.
