Well...they are making a new show. So you can have both!

Not OP, but neat!

Agreed.

Not premiering until January 2017, but yeah, you'll have your wish, OP.

OP

(Anonymous) 2015-12-20 10:06 pm (UTC)(link)
I found this out earlier today! But I am very happy to know this.

(Anonymous) 2015-12-20 10:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh that is awesome. Double the Trek!

(Anonymous) 2015-12-20 10:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Cool! Too bad there's no info on what it will be about, but it's too early fir that, I suppose.

Welp, you've already been told but...congrats OP? You are living the dream. Or will be, in a couple years.

I'm interested in both, but there's no major excitement yet. Maybe later, once we know more.

I hated Into Darkness, so I'm not crazy about this one... the trailer made it look like too much action too little trekking... again. Though at least it looked like it was on a planet which is not Earth? That's something...

From what Simon Pegg and George Takei have said, that trailer is doing one hell of disservice to that film. So it sounds like it's gonna be more Star Treky than the last film was, just that trailer marketing team decided to use most of the action scenes.

I hope so. I really, really hope so. Because that trailer did not make me want to see the movie at all.

Yeah, but the new show is going to go all Battlestar Galactica 2003 on us. It'll be padded and serialized and grimdark and more about space warfare than hopeful and upbeat exploration with enlightened humans And it'll take an entire season to get one episode's worth of material because everyone will stand around staring or talking very very slowly instead of conversing and proceeding through the plot.

There was an episode of CSI where a TV producer gets murdered at a scifi convention after unveiling his reboot of a show that looked just like classic Trek but now looks like neo-BSG. Ronald D. Moore had a cameo.

Ah, you've seen into the future and you already hate it. Lucky, lucky showrunner who hasn't even been named yet.

(Anonymous) 2015-12-21 01:17 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm from the future, there was a wormhole, or an alien, or a "subspace anomaly" which resulted in me being ripped into this hellish alternate timeline. I mean, right now in what you would call "Star Trek History" we had the Eugenics Wars, Sanctuary Districts, and were staring down the barrel of WW3 right now, but we never faced the horror of a Trump or Hilary Clinton presidency. That is a special kind of hell right there, no wonder your upbeat dramas suck.

TV SF has moved on since then, though. As long as they don't put Ron Moore in charge we'll be fine. Serialised will probably be the case, though.

If I was forced to choose between Serialization or Grimdark as the least worst thing NuBSG brought to our screens, I'd choose the grimdark. Serialization leaves no room for casual viewing, it is just much worse than grimdark as the thing that puts me off a show.
