Not OP but someone else from one of the smaller European countries:
Retro games cost just as much, plus we never even had a N64 or Gamecube or the older consoles. I think Playstation was the first "big" console sold in stores over here.

yep. You can play old SNES games on a smartphone.
Also PC ports for older PS games, you don't need a crazy computer to run those.

Yeah, this. I pretty much lived off that for a long time.

It's AYRT's use of "mate" isn't it? I don't hear it much IRL, but maybe that's because I'm in a big city.

Then get into PlayStation games, if that's all that's available. PS1 & 2 have an amazing catalogue of old games to try and a lot of reviewers say those were the best consoles of all time.

Anyone who only wants to play the newest games for the newest consoles is always going to have to spend a lot of money. It will be out of the reach of most.

I play a lot of games, but most of them are older ones which only cost me about 2 Euros each. I know I can't play any of the latest AAA games on my current setup, so I just ignore their existence.

Patience, OP. In 5 years time you will be able to play those games you currently crave. Technology will have improved and prices will have come down and those games you wanted will have become retro in their turn.
