God knows the library is too expensive, right?

(Anonymous) 2015-12-24 12:53 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, sure want to risk getting bed bugs that love to live in book spines!

(Anonymous) 2015-12-24 01:02 am (UTC)(link)
Oh yeah, I hear about this on the news every day. It's a huge problem. That's why they're trying to pass legislation to close down all the libraries.

You are adorable.

Wait, what? You're serious? I saw that up above and thought it was a joke and chuckled to myself. Little did I realize that you live in fear of bedbugs in library books.

I hope you never take public transit or sit down in a public place like a doctor's office or coffee shop, or wash your clothes at a laundromat, because any piece of furniture can harbor them, and washing doesn't get rid of them.

Oh for God's sake. I have been borrowing books for nearly 50 years and have never, repeat never, come across of heard of this.

I call Urban Legend.

I wish I could go to the library every day but I'm in the middle of nowhere and usually have no transportation. I'm sure I'm not the only one.

Ebooks.

Yup, those are helpful.

I'm not saying it's impossible to get access to books when you're not near a library, I just always end up having to say something when people act like it's always an easy option because it's incredible to me to think of being able to just walk over there whenever I want. Honestly, I'm jealous of people who do have it that easy. I love libraries.

(Anonymous) 2015-12-24 04:39 am (UTC)(link)
Why would you need to go to the library every day? At the most you'd probably have to go every month, or however long your book/movie checks out for. If they renew items, it might be once every three months.

Both my local library systems offer ebooks from their websites, and at least one but probably both offer free library cards to anyone who lives anywhere in the state, not just the immediate area. Maybe check the library websites for big cities in your state to see if they offer free cards to state residents?

(Anonymous) 2015-12-24 03:22 am (UTC)(link)
Not everyone has access to a library. Libraries are currently on the decline, because people don't want to spend the tax dollars to keep them open.

(Anonymous) 2015-12-24 04:40 am (UTC)(link)
That's maybe the third time someone has said this here.

Context? Are we talking about the USA here?

(Anonymous) 2015-12-24 06:27 am (UTC)(link)
I doubt it because they just renovated/updated two of the libraries in my area and have plans to do the same to a third.

(Anonymous) 2015-12-24 11:33 pm (UTC)(link)
nayrt

They just renovated and enlarged the public library in my home town too. But I can easily believe that in some big cities, there's little effort to get funds for libraries that only poor people use. In Philadelphia, where my folks live, the population grudges cops and firefighters their pensions--and these are people whom everyone (deservedly or not) regards as heroes until, apparently, they get old or disabled and have to retire--then they're greedy hogs with their snouts in the public trough. In those circumstances, how much of a will do you think there is to fund libraries so poor people can get access to books and computers?
