If you really want some new stuff, there are lots of ways you can find things.
Ask for recs from friends, or even here - if you give a few examples of stuff you like, people can sometimes find you great stuff :) I've gotten some really good recs that way.
There are also lists published by various sites, like Buzzfeed and on Amazon and such, like "best 20 fantasy books published this year" and whatnot. You can scan through those, and see if anything attracts your attention.

Also, if you go on Amazon and other book sites, if you search for a specific book sometimes it'll give you "customers who bought this also bought" or list similar books. You can start from something you like, and then branch out from there.
Even in libraries, sometimes it's worth just browsing around and pulling something off the shelf because the title catches your eye, or the cover looks interesting, or maybe because you've heard of the author.

I love wandering around the library until something catches my eye. Well, somethings really. I usually end up with a stack of books that I can barely carry.

I just took out a book from the university library, translated from Japanese, called "Punk Samurai Slash Down". I have no real idea what it's about, and it will probably be terrible, but I couldn't resist.

I probably would have had to take that out too. Weird titles have worked out for me before though. I only discovered Amelie Nothomb because I was at a used book sale and came across Hygiene and the Assassin and my curiosity was piqued.

I know being in Fandom has given me a few ew fandoms over the years, and usually if it catches my interest strongly enough, I go get the canon material that does not promise that it will be books though, off-hand two such fandoms got me into computer games and another a TV show).

Well, of course it can get you non-book fandoms. I just thought in this case we were specifically talking about text-based stuff, and how to find more of them.

I just think it could just as easily encourage someone to read a book as well.
