I think the problem is he's a stage actor/entertainer, not so much a movie/TV actor and it shows in how he moves.

I like him, but I agree his performances aren't the pinnacle of screen acting.

+1, his acting always reaches right to the back of the theatre...even when he's in close up on a camera. But this generally suits his characters so that's okay with me.

+2 Barrowman is very much a play and musical actor. He really just doesn't have the subtle acting that you need sometimes on screen.

I'd probably rather watch him in a musical then a tv show, but he can be okay sometimes.

I think their point is that Barrowman is only a stage actor and doesn't know how to adapt for film/tv the way other actors can.
