I'm not interested either. The original is perf, it doesn't need a reboot/remake.

(Anonymous) 2015-12-25 10:30 pm (UTC)(link)
I think they are calling the reboot "Wonder Woman" or something.

Completely agree. Going to just rewatch and love original Xena.

I haven't followed the discussion about the reboot as I wasn't aware there would be one. My question to you, OP, though - does anyone know if Lawless and O'Connor even want to reprise their roles?

does anyone know if Lawless and O'Connor even want to reprise their roles?

A quick search says she's open to returning, but doesn't believe she'll be given a part. I think whoever is making it wants a new cast, as TPTB don't want Lawless 'overshadowing' whoever/whatever else they have in mind for the show. So if Lawless and O'Connor came back, it would probably only be for an episode or two. It sounds like Lawless would love to play Xena again in a film, but I don't know how likely any of this is. :/

Which sucks (because, like OP said, there are plenty of men older then Lawless and O'Connor playing action heroes), because I would love to see Xena return in the same way X-Files is.

She mentions somewhere about not minding to come back for a standalone film. I could see that.

Lucy has said she's willing to return for a special or movie, but wouldn't be able to do a regular series like that again,

(Anonymous) 2015-12-25 10:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Is it a reboot or a continuation? Because if it's a reboot, I'm not sure you could do it with Gabrielle in her 40s. Part of her setup was being the young innocent, wasn't it

A Xena in her 40s would work in a less sexist industry, and would be interesting, but it would be a different... something than the original.

(Anonymous) 2015-12-26 04:23 am (UTC)(link)
Well, Gabrielle started off young and innocent, but the character wasn't static even during the run of the original series. Gabrielle got older and wiser, and way less innocent as part of her growth as a human being. I don't see why it would work any differently to see a Gabrielle in her 40s.

That would make for an interesting continuation, with Gabrielle in a similar "experienced warrior woman" role like Xena was right from the start, then somehow come up with a reason why Xena herself makes an appearance (the series did end with her dead). Of course that would also mean introducing a younger inexperienced warrior woman for Gabrielle to be a mentor figure to... which would make a great pilot to a new series, even if Gabi was only in it for the pilot.

You're spot on OP. Like if Harrison Ford, Sylvester Stallone, and all the other countless old men can make sequels to their old action movies, then why not Lucy Lawless? Especially considering she looks FUCKING INCREDIBLE.

I mean, even Lucy is in a show right now where a man is reprising a role he did over 30 years ago (Ash vs evil dead.)

I won't automatically count out a reboot but it does feel like sexism/ageism plays a part in what gets a sequel vs what gets a reboot.

(Anonymous) 2015-12-25 11:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Except all of those have been stories about being old. Do you want the axe a show to be about being old?

And she looks amazing in that show. Like I would kill to look that good now and I'm a decade younger than her.

Well...

(Anonymous) 2015-12-25 10:52 pm (UTC)(link)
You're right that people don't think men 40 and older are too old (Robert Downey, Jr., Harrison Ford, etc.). And there have been, if not reboots, continuations using original casts (Fuller House, Ash Vs. Evil Dead). But if you think there aren't plenty of reboots out there that have brought in younger men, I don't know where you've been.

Re: Well...

(Anonymous) 2015-12-26 08:07 am (UTC)(link)
A couple things...

* The secret didn't say there weren't any reboots that brought in younger men

* Reboots that bring in younger men usually do so because they want to tackle an earlier point in the story's chronology (see: Spider Man) and need a younger actor, or because they simply want to reboot the series and too much time has gone by to use the original actor, or because they think a different actor will have greater appeal. Tobey Macguire wasn't ditched as Spider Man because people thought he was too old to play a superhero.

Yeah, I'm not interested either. A reboot with different actors, when the currents are still so young, is just weird.

What, Xena doesn't age into a battle grizzled warrior? Hmmm

and I'm skeptical about how the new writer will ruin write the friendships and turn it into generic fantasy romance adventure.

Lucy IS Xena and I just know they'll act a tiny waifish girl in the reboot, making it way less believable and great. I am thin myself but you need a strong/muscular frame for this kind of character, you don't see someone playing Hercules being skinny.

(Anonymous) 2015-12-26 02:22 am (UTC)(link)
Ahem, young Hercules? Was that a young...uhm...what's his name? Ryan Gosling?

But I'll always love Kevin Sorbo as Hercules :)

That's what I always loved about the casting of Lucy Lawless. She looks physically capable of kicking ass!

(Anonymous) 2015-12-26 12:18 am (UTC)(link)
One good thing about reboots is they get new people interested in the source material. Whether or not it turns out to be a bomb, you are going to get an influx of people discovering how great Lucy Lawless.

I didn't even know there was a reboot in the works, I can understand them using new actors since I think all reboots do but I'd be mightly disappointed if neither Lucy Lawless or Renee O'Conner had a cameo at least somewhere.

I'll probably give it a go, but tbh Lucy Lawless was the main appeal of the show for me.

(Anonymous) 2015-12-26 01:36 am (UTC)(link)
You shouldn't have to claim youre not radfem anon just for pointing out a really obvious and true double standard in Hollywood.

But yeah I agree.
But I may check the remake out anyways if the trailers look promising

Their rebooting Xena? Really?
