Image: E.T. and Elliott ride a bycicle through the air, silloutted in front of the moon, from the movie E. T.: The Extra Terrestrial

I have an irrational dislike of this movie stemming from the fact that I really, really HATE Reese's Pieces. I still think it's a good movie, a seminal film for 80s kids, blah blah blah, but still... E. T. and Elliott have terrible taste in candy.

Rees's Pieces don't even taste like proper peanut butter: too sweet and not the right texture.

I love peanut butter cups, though. The chocolate makes all the difference - especially dark chocolate.

I heard somewhere they originally wanted to use M&Ms but Mars wouldn't pay for the product placement. THat makes things a little better.

I get that, but that may be just me being all weird and foreign. American peanut butter is so sickly sweet.

Peanuts aren't sweet. Peanut butter shouldn't be either.

It's that good old American high fructose corn syrup that gets added into almost everything, whether Americans want it or not!

You've probably only had it in candy. It's sweet because it's candy. We also have peanut butter that's not sweetened.

By that reasoning, we shouldn't have chocolate because cacao pods aren't sweet, either. Neither are vanilla beans.

Peanut butter isn't sweet though...? You sure you had actual peanut butter and not candy?

The best peanut butter is the one with peanut pieces in it, not the creamy kind.

Anon is probably thinking of sweetened peanut butter, like your typical Skippy/Jif/Peter Pan, and not unsweetened, or "natural" peanut butter, which is a million times better, but costs more and isn't universally available.

American natural peanut butter and freshly-roasted peanut butter aren't sweet.

Agreed about both Reese's products. The pieces have a weird mayonnaise-y aftertaste and they gross me out if I eat them.

Also, wanting to stab anyone who calls them REESEES PEESEES has probably contributed partly to my dislike of the product.
