anime is real

(Anonymous) 2015-12-26 09:01 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm confused. Is this a meme, or is Bernie Sanders an anime fan?

Either way, that's a weird reason to vote for someone.

(Anonymous) 2015-12-26 09:05 pm (UTC)(link)
It's a meme.

Better than the "hip" woman and Boris Johnson's evil twin.

(Anonymous) 2015-12-26 09:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Not the biggest falsehood in politics really, not even the biggest falsehood in the democrat race. The biggest falsehood in the latter is "Hilary Clinton is a Democrat".

(Anonymous) 2015-12-26 09:05 pm (UTC)(link)
She is a Democrat, though.

(Anonymous) 2015-12-26 09:06 pm (UTC)(link)
She is, technically, a Democrat.

The problem is Democrat doesn't mean what people think it means any more.

(Anonymous) 2015-12-26 09:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Nor does it stand for what the DNC claims it stands for.

(Anonymous) 2015-12-26 09:07 pm (UTC)(link)
What do you think it means?

What do you think the DNC claims it means?

No, the problem is that it doesn't mean what you want it to mean.

(Anonymous) 2015-12-26 09:19 pm (UTC)(link)
By the standards of the ancient Greeks who invented democracy, none of our modern democrats are REAL democrats.

(Anonymous) 2015-12-26 09:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Whatever gets Bernie more votes tbh. I can't even be mad.

(Anonymous) 2015-12-26 11:35 pm (UTC)(link)
The joke of the meme is that he keeps,at least according to the general impression his most rabid followers are giving of him, promising to do stuff he will not actually be able to do and certainly not in four to eight years.

This is giving a lot of people a seriously heightened sense of false hope which is going to come crashing back down once/if he gets into office and it slowly dawns on them that he won't be able to accomplish more than a third of what he promised and that none of it will be accomplished immediately or without unpleasant compromises and that the Republicans and the Tea Party and the more conservative Democrats are going to fight him the.entire.way.

They want a savior who will fix all their problems and magically make being in your twenties and early thirties not be the kind of exhausting, expensive, demoralizing experience it has always been for every generation, and they might not get that, and they're going to get upset when we're all stuck with someone who is just, like, really good at keeping the country from imploding.

(Anonymous) 2015-12-27 01:33 am (UTC)(link)
I see what you're saying and agree to a point, but I see the other major candidates (except O'Malley) as being the exact thing I don't want in office. Bernie isn't going to be perfect. I'm worried about his positions on national defense, for instance. But I believe he represents American ideals at their best. Hillary doesn't do that for me. She's just a few steps away from being one of the Republicans.

As a supporter of Sanders, I don't think any reasonable person expects him to be able to snap his fingers and make magic happen. The rabid but reasonable ones care more about sending a message. They want to tell the Democratic party that unless they move more left, they're going to lose a huge chunk of their base that they've left behind. They also want to tell the US that a majority of people agree with Sanders on what's wanted and what's useful and what's important to us in the long run.

Sanders can't do it alone. He's said as much himself. Congress has to agree with him and getting him into the White House isn't the end, we have to elect progressive representatives as well. But getting him in there in the first place shows everyone that it's possible, and is definitely going to shift the political narrative moving into the future, which we need because the left has been dead in it for the past decade.

(Anonymous) 2015-12-27 04:29 am (UTC)(link)
I'm amused that you think this generation's "exhausting, expensive, demoralizing experience" is how it's always been. No, it's really not. The median 25-year-old today is not in the same economic position as the median 25-year-old 40 years ago. Things have been better and worse at various points in history. Right now, in the USA, things are worse than a generation ago.

(Anonymous) 2015-12-26 09:29 pm (UTC)(link)
I have no comment on the secret but Bernie looks adorable there.

(Anonymous) 2015-12-26 11:39 pm (UTC)(link)
LOL! That's a good look on him!

But how real are we talking about here? Slightly less 2D to be able to touch, or 3DPD? THIS IS IMPORTANT.

Full offense, but why are troll secrets even allowed to be posted? What about some quality control?
