Spellchecking but not proofreading.

"Anyways" instead of "anyway" in descriptive passages.

Using fandom terminology in description or dialogue where it's OOC and OOPlace.

Posting dozens of 1,000-word fics as separate titles, when they're clearly parts of the same story, instead of posting them as chapters of the same title, ESPECIALLY when it's a tiny fandom or rare-pair. I hate clicking on a tag and seeing "104 works for this tag" and getting excited, and then realizing 102 of them are written by the same person and are set in the same universe and don't work as standalones. WHY.

GOT/ASOAIF FANDOM: FUCKING TAG YOUR FUCKING MODERN AUS.

I hate modern AUs, but at least the Silmarillion fandom mostly tags them. Some of my friends write them, though, and I feel obligated to read them and reblog since I reblog just about everything for my OTPs. But I really don't like them.

I hate them too! I mostly read Classic and historical fiction and fantasy, because I want to live for a moment in any world but this one. If I'm reading Tolkien's fantasy works, I want to read about....Tolkien's fantasy world, you know? That's the very reason I'm reading them, imagine that! That world is infinitely more interesting to me than "Frodo and Sam work in an office" could ever be.

Ditto for me. They only work for me if they're reincarnation fics, because I feel those have a bit more touch with the original canon, and even those can be lackluster.

I once saw a fic were in story a couple of antagonistic characters that the author disliked were described as "mary sues".

One, don't call someone a Mary Sue in story unless its 4th wall/meta comedy (and unless the tone and context is just right, it's really cringey). Two, if you must at least make sure you know what the term means.

The 1000 word story thing, YES! I have had this happen for so many small fandoms. 50 fics? 26 of those are going to be drabbles by one person.

Same. I can't stand when authors throw in terms like "fangirls" or "shipping" where it just does not make any sense.

"Shipping" is what I was thinking of! Also the use of fandom nicknames in-story, or phrases like "he has a [xyz] kink" which I'm preeeeetty sure no one outside of fandom uses (more like "a [xyz] fetish" or "he has a thing for [xyz]"), and I'm reaaallly sure Mr. Darcy in Regency-era England would never use it, either.

Besides being out of place in the story, it makes me think that the author is so single-mindedly into fandom that they don't realize what's fandom-specific jargon and what's not, and that weirds me out.

Yeah, no. P&Pverse's big scandal was Lydia and Wickham being involved out of wedlock, so I don't think Darcy's going to run around talking about kinky sex. Although you could argue that as long as he and Lizzy are married...

"Anyways" instead of "anyway" in descriptive passages.

'Anyways' is perfectly correct depending on your dialect.

Usually narrative is in a neutral dialect. If it's rendered in a more specific manner, it's usually a narrative from the POV of a character.

Oh man I always cringe a bit if I see fandom terminology in fic, sometimes it's okay, like a website is just mentioned, but if it's anything more than that. Nope, cringey.

The drabble one is so weird, just make it a multi-chapter fic? Especially if it's already written so it'd just need to be uploaded in one go. I can only think that it's done to garner more kudos/comments or something.

... fallout from the "write 35 drabbles and post them as separate fics" is that it often makes a fandom that would otherwise be rare enough for an exchange like Yuletide "too big."

Doubly Especially when all 35 of the fics are about their fucking OCs for that fandom.
