lol what AO3 is a million times easier to search for fic than lj because you don't have to slog back through 67/? individual chapters of a fic, in reverse

I get AO3 is your tribe or whatever, but how many times do you need to be told by different people that AO3's search system is useless before you admit it might have a problem?

nayrt

it's not useless

it's worse for your specific use case, that's not the same thing as "useless"

There has been a veritable parade of people in the past pointing out that it is useless in their varied cases, it is getting a bit like the Monty Python "What have the Romans done for us" sketch now with listing off the exceptions to the good search engine. Apart from people looking for the non-crossovers, and the people wanting to exclude ships, and the people wanting an intuitive search format, and the people wanting a one touch search engine, and the people wanting...etc Apart from the huge long list, it is easy to search on AO3. You can tell AO3 was founded by SJWs by the way they refuse to accept there is a problem with their perfect creation.

If FF.net wasn't known for all the newbies and trash fanfic, and it's dumb as fuck decision regarding NC-1/Mature fanfic, it's the fic site we need. It's serch functionality is the best of them all and I WISH AO3 would adopt some of that. And put major restrictions on the stupid Tumblr tags.

Chill out granny.

I have my favorite fanfic writers that I keep track of and I read peoples recommended fic lists. That is the true best way to find good fic.

A lot of fanfic is trash, but it was always like that. Long before ao3.

Most rec lists are shit full of OOC id. How can anyone find something good depending on them is something I'll never get.

Find a good writer, and look at their rec list. If you look at a bad writer's rec list (or a writer not to your tastes), then you get bad recs (or recs not to your tastes).

"AO3 is a million times easier to search for fic than lj because you don't have to slog back through 67/? individual chapters of a fic, in reverse"

Agreed. So many fics on LJ communities where I only got to read half the chapters of really amazing, fully completed fics because the author never bothered adding links to all the parts, due to their technical incompetence or just forgetfulness, and the community settings meant they couldn't tag their own fics to make all the chapters easy to find.

At least when you find a completed fic on AO3 you're guaranteed to be able to have all the chapters there in one place.
