Do you feel uncomfortable around people of the opposite sex?

(Anonymous) 2015-12-28 11:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Different gender presentation or whatever.

I feel uncomfortable around everyone.

Mnh... maybe that sounds kind of vague. I'm not big on eye contact or casual touching and a LOT of people are, so while I'm generally okay with people I've known for a while, strangers of any sex make me uncomfortable.

Yea, I feel you.

I wouldn't necessarily say I'm uncomfortable around everyone (and certainly not all the time), but I am an awkward person and have some anxiety when interacting with people, and it's something I'm very aware of.

I can make eye contact, but holding that contact isn't always easy for me. Don't mind hugging people that I'm familiar with either but I don't do it often. Outside of that it depends on the situation.

(And hot people make me nervous.)

Yeah, I definitely don't trust dudes as much as I trust girls. I feel shitty that I feel that way, but not enough to get over it.

Not OP.

Can I ask why? I mean, women can be just as untrustworthy as men, so it always seemed strange to me when someone says, "I don't trust guys." or "I don't trust girls.".

I felt the same way for years, because when I was younger I was bullied particularly badly by a couple of boys. Unfortunately, that made me miss out on getting to know a lot of great guys. I hope you get over it, because it's hurting you more than the men you irrationally distrust.

No

I feel uncomfortable around people who have polar opposite views and lifestyles from me, but gender is incidental to that

Whether I'm comfortable around someone is based on the individual and their personality, not their gender.

No, but if guys are with their girlfriends or wives I sometimes worry that they'll think I'm flirting with them.

I think it's in part because I have greeted guy friends/acquaintances before and been glared at by their girlfriends. Hey, girl with the fake tan? I knew your boyfriend when he said "PENIS" because it was funny and was obsessed with spongebob squarepants. I would never take him seriously enough to steal him from you.

Not as such, but I do get uncomfortable around people I'm attracted to, which is mostly people of the opposite sex, so there is some overlap there

I don't know how to interact with people who agender, bigender, etc. Otherwise no.

I'm a guy, and most of my friends tend to be women, so... apparently not? Honestly, I'm usually more uncomfortable around a bunch of other men, because too many things turn into weird dick-measuring contests.

I'm actually much more uncomfortable around other men than I am around women. Men are much more... I dunno, threatening, I guess, while women don't tend to be in my experience.

I feel more comfortable around guys, I dunno. I'm not the most feminine person, and I guess I feel like I don't belong with women, they're judgey, I'm not as pretty, I don't care about clothes and makeup and junk... I just always feel on edge, like I have to present myself a certain way in a group of women, and that pressure always goes away around men.

Why would I?

I do not understand this question.

Yeah. My father was abusive so I feel uneasy around men a lot. I try not to let it effect my life though (ie I still interact with male professors, classmates, bosses, etc) but I tend to flinch away when guys try and touch me (and since most of my interactions with men are professional it would be inappropriate if they did anyway so its all cool.)

No.

I think I would if it were a situation where I felt a threat from them, but that is (happily) not a situation I'm familiar with.

I'm used to spending a bunch of time around dudes and being one of the only, if not the only, woman in the room because of a hobby I've had for years. It's just a non-issue for me at this point.

no. and i don't even think that's a good thing, because so often i find out that guys are actually treating me differently/that my being a woman changes the atmosphere and THAT othering makes me very uncomfortable.

I'm not keen being the only girl in a room full of guys or a train load of just guys etc if that's what you mean.

Re: Do you feel uncomfortable around people of the opposite sex?

Yeah, more so than around my own. But both come with their own set of bullshit too.

Re: Do you feel uncomfortable around people of the opposite sex?

mmmm....just generally around them, no. Hanging with them, working with them, no. But if I'm walking home, say, and a group of guys shows up out of nowhere, tiny alarms start going off in my brain

Re: Do you feel uncomfortable around people of the opposite sex?

(Anonymous) 2015-12-29 10:58 pm (UTC)(link)
No. It's more dependent on the person rather than sex or gender.
