(Anonymous) 2015-12-29 12:00 am (UTC)(link)It's the same phenomenon where people wanting SJ brownie points will gush about whichever black actor is currently "in" and fancast them in everything ever, because they aren't familiar with any other black actors. (Case in point: Idris Elba. Don't get me wrong, I like him, but he's not the ONLY black actor that exists!)

Or are you disagreeing with me that some people would rather just go "A WOMAN WAS THE FIRST ____!!!" instead of actually educating themselves about the history of women writers?
Women writers have accomplished so many revolutionary things in literature that it's sad that instead of learning about that, or appreciating what Shelley did, people would rather just go "NEENER NEENER! THIS WOMAN WAS THE FIRST SCI-FI AUTHOR!".

(Anonymous) 2015-12-29 12:14 am (UTC)(link)I said most people haven't heard of Cavendish, not I AM THE ONLY PERSON WHO HAS EVER HEARD OF CAVENDISH, SHE IS THE OBSCUREST OF THE OBSCURE. And it's true. If you ask some random person on the street, or hell, some random person on a fandom forum if they're more familiar with Frankenstein or The Blazing World, what answer do you think they're going to give?
In any case, I don't see how you personally having heard of Cavendish disproves what I'm saying.

(Anonymous) 2015-12-29 12:27 am (UTC)(link)Perhaps you're right on that count, but do you really think most of the people on tumblr who are trumpeting Shelley as the founder of SF have heard of Cavendish?
