She gave up because her brother was more important and how can you be with a guy who doesn't understand that?

nayrt - To be fair, was there ever a scene where Karl argues with her about it or forces her to make that choice? I don't recall seeing one... it seems like she just gives up without even addressing the issue or explaining to Karl what the situation is. Karl isn't told what's going on, nor is he given a chance to react so we don't know if he would've been reasonable or unreasonable about the fact that her brother requires a great deal of her time.

IMO, that's what makes that storyline sad. Like the other anon said, she gives up without trying.

THIS. He basically just tells her to not take the call, at least for that one night. She needed to LIVE. And I think he could see that, and not just because they were half naked and they BOTH wanted each other so badly.

And yeah, she basically just tells him her brother is unwell. Like...that's not a whole lot to go on there.

And, even though it's sad, he back's off. Now whether that is because the whole situation was now super uncomfortable or because he realizes she see's her brother as more important is up in the air. But that makes it so sad.
