See, that I can understand. IRL you'd often come to a realization like that and just decide it isn't healthy and come to terms with it yourself, but since this is a film... Yea, share it and try to move on.

I don't know why, but I never grasped that. (Granted, I only saw the film once, but I somehow got it in my head that he was trying to change her mind, which made him a totally shitty friend.)

Yeah, but he wasn't. He was content to pine quietly and keep her at a distance, even if it made things super awkward between them and his bff.

It's why, after she finds out, and he finally decides to confess, one of the note cards he wrote, said something along the lines of basically not expecting anything from her. At all. And it's why when he finally walked away after that (though i will say her kissing him was stupid. i hated that part), he looks off, away from her house, and says "Enough" and leaves.

That was the end to his arc and, hopefully, a new beginning in which he can find someone else, who CAN love him back.
