Re: Close Encounters of the Third Kind
(Anonymous) 2016-01-02 01:04 am (UTC)(link)I didn't expect them to magically know. It's just presented as perfectly logical things for them to be doing, with no other options to try, and they had to have gone to a lot of trouble to put all that together.
Someone had to go to the effort to make that photo board and drag it out to Wyoming. Why even bother when you don't know everyone the aliens took or even if they'd be returned during the army's whoe dog and pony show?
Re: Close Encounters of the Third Kind
(Anonymous) 2016-01-02 01:11 am (UTC)(link)I...don't see why this is a problem? Why isn't it logical based on what they know and are capable of?
As for their attitude, I think there are two parts here: 1) the army etc is known for going FULL STEAM AHEAD on things for morale and stuff even if the higher ups aren't actually sure if it's the correct course of action. 2) The director probably didn't want to show too many scenes of the people discussing what to do and how to do it to preserve the tone of mystery and surreality for the audience. The tones/colors scenes wouldn't be remotely interesting to watch if we had seen them plan and explain the whole thing beforehand.
