My first fic ever was for a contest, so I was proud of my work, but a little worried about how it would be judged. I was also looking forward to seeing what else would be submitted. (Not much, as it turned out. That site had a lot of trouble getting contestants to actually finish their fics.)

For reference, that fic was godawful. I managed to do some interesting things with hive-minded aliens, but the humanoid POV character was a walking cliche with no interesting development, and the plot barely went anywhere at all. People were pretty nice about it, though.
