Re: What fans do you feel bad for?
(Anonymous) 2016-01-02 05:02 am (UTC)(link)Eh, I can understand it if, for example, the ship is abusive and fucked up and the fandom is treating it as if it's all sunshine and fluffy bunnies. There's a popular fanon ship in one of my canons that's like that (adult man/young girl) and it really bothers me because no one ever mentions or acknowledges that it would be creepy as hell for an adult man to be romantically and/or sexually interested in a prepubescent girl. I wouldn't hate the ship nearly so much if anyone actually recognized that fact instead of acting as if it's adorable and romantic.
Re: What fans do you feel bad for?
Okay, that I can understand. I would feel frustration too, but even so I wouldn't go to an individual and say, "You're shipping this wrong." I would stay in my corner and wonder why, but it just isn't worth the wank to me.

That sounds like something I would be squicked out by, but oftentimes fandom doesn't think about shipping in a real world context. It's fiction so it isn't hurting anyone.
I mean, in my case I'd still be aware of the fucked up factor and I would prefer it to be acknowledged in the fic, but rarely is there a consensus about this sort of thing.
