Love him, flaws are part of what makes him a great character.

I never really got why he became the fandom kicking bag. his faults aren't any less forgivable than anyone else in the story.

I go back and forth on Ron. For the most part he was a great and loyal friend. But two things really bug me: in GOF when he, Harry's best friend who knows him better than anyone, believes Harry is lying and put his name in the cup and is a complete ass about it. And in DH when he abandons his friend. Yes, the locket played a part, but still it only played on urges that were already there.

That being said, I do like Ron and in the balance I think he was a good person and friend. But I get why others disagree because he seems to be toeing the line for me.

He's poor, so he can't become the sophisticated Lord Ron in leather pants and as a result he doesn't matter. And why ignore a character when you can bash him instead?
