I know exactly what you mean; it's like the Uncanny Valley of kink porn. When it's obviously fantasy, all the fetish dials turned up to 11, it's easy to accept that you and the creator are on the same wavelength. However, as it draws closer to reality, it enters a zone where it starts getting disturbing. Does this creator KNOW they have this kink, or do they just think what they're doing is normal and everyone thinks this way? Or do they want to practice this kink in real life, so they're very concerned with making it as realistic as possible because it's what they seriously want to do?

Rape and non-con are one obvious example. Your experience with an underage character is another good one. Anyone got some others?

(Anonymous) 2016-01-02 10:06 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't have another example, but I was about to call it uncanny valley kink myself. It's just close enough to "normal" to be concerning.

(Anonymous) 2016-01-02 10:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Oooooo, this is such a good explanation!

(Anonymous) 2016-01-02 11:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, exactly. A kink like this almost falls on a spectrum.

On the one end you've got stuff like Okane ga Nai, where it's so OTT that it becomes damn near impossible to take seriously. Huge hulking men with trash-can lid sized hands and tiny heads fucking weeping, drooling, delicate waifs. There's nothing that resembles reality at all. It's as ridiculous as a/b/o or a hentai about nipple fucking.

And on the other end things are just a little too real, and as you say, it becomes disturbing.

How about guro and vore and cannibalism? Sex slaves, milking, hypnotism. There's lots of genres that I've seen get really weird.

(Anonymous) 2016-01-02 10:30 pm (UTC)(link)
lol I get it completely

sometimes the 'almost porn' can be more disturbing than hardcore porn

Too much realism or preoccupation with a particular everyday look makes me wonder if this person obsesses over young children in real life situations too.

(Anonymous) 2016-01-03 12:59 am (UTC)(link)
I'm wondering how creepy bathing pictures would have to be.

(Anonymous) 2016-01-03 01:18 am (UTC)(link)
I think it's like the difference between showing murder and rape on tv shows: objectively you'd think murder is the worse crime, but it's still vastly less problematic to portray in fiction.

With baddies getting shot to death we think "this is entertainment and we totally know it's not cool in real life". While with rape scenes... you've definitely got that creepy portion of audience who'll think "awesome, I'd fuck that bitch too" or some shit.

(Anonymous) 2016-01-03 07:46 am (UTC)(link)
That just reminds me of the old Chris Rock routine. "We're going over there to kill Saddam Hussein. We're not going over there to rape him, because that would be wrong."

(Anonymous) 2016-01-03 01:38 am (UTC)(link)
I had something similar happen in that I ran across an older comic with fantasy art. It seemed really cool, lots of elves and things. But as I read a little closer, I got majorly creepy vibes from it. The characters were all drawn as ten-year-old boys (or even younger) and seemed strangely sexualized. I didn't buy the comic; I did look it up on the internet later and found out the author was, yes, a pedo who abused young boys. I wanted to barf.

Are you talking about Elfquest by the Pini's? I loved it as a kid, but went through puberty and realized that it was pretty skewey stuff.

I haven't heard any wank about their real life though, but with that wacky fanbase it wouldn't surprise me a bit if the authors are far out there too.

(Anonymous) 2016-01-03 02:00 am (UTC)(link)
It might have been. I'm too grossed out to look it up again, frankly

(Anonymous) 2016-01-03 03:03 am (UTC)(link)
I'm pretty sure it's about Barry Blair, who did draw some Elfquest New blood issues but had some other Elf-based story.

The Pini's drew the elves young but not that young looking (I would never confuse, say, Treestump, with a ten year old) but Blair took it to a really weird extreme.

Holy crap, THAT guy! I was actually only familiar with his porno work. Which, yeah, is fetishtastic.

I don't send them hate or anything, but whenever I see an artist sexualize a very very underage character, I always secretly judge them hard because seriously ew.

I hate to ask OP but...

(Anonymous) 2016-01-03 03:01 am (UTC)(link)
Link? I'm honestly having a really hard time imagining what you're talking about, and I get a little nervous when people immediately start throwing "pedo" shade in particular because some of the stuff I've seen people get alarmist about is so...not that. (Think Madoka from Mahou Shoujo is cute? UR A PEDO! Want to see her kiss Homura? DIRTY PEDO PERVERT! and so on and so forth.) Just direct link a picture or something.

In the meantime, somebody on here mentioned Okane Na Gai or whatever and it immmediately reminded me of this. Have fun laughing at "Dorito faced bad touch senpai and shota boy":

I don't want to out the particular artist but I'll try to explain it in more detail:

One of the things the artist did was taking screenshots from the show of him doing things like...eating breakfast, swimming in a river, sleeping with the covers half down, lounging around in the sun, and edited them so that he was shirtless when he had a shirt in the original screenshot. And they did like, a couple dozen of these, all titled things like "[Character] shirtless #3" or "[Character] bathing #2" and stuff. It was just...quite obvious that this was a kinky thing. They also drew some original pictures along the same lines.

If they just had drawn several original pictures of him without a shirt and without mentioning "shirtless" in the title/description I probably would have thought nothing of it because there's nothing wrong with depicting a kid hanging around without a shirt -- especially given that this particular kid spends a lot of time living outdoors and away from civilization. I totally agree with you on that front, that a lot of things people whine "pedo" about are totally innocent and just done for cuteness or atmosphere or showing in-character regular kid behavior.

It was the deliberate screenshot edits and the artists' mentions of his state of undress and just how many of them there were (all titled similarly too) that skeeved me out.

Huh, yeah that would kind of weird me out too, and to be honest I'm completely alright with shota/loli stuff normally, even hardcore stuff. It's all so over the top usually.

This particular instance just kind of sounds...weird? :X Someone upthread used the term "uncanny valley", and I think I agree completely.

YKINMK is great and all, but I am completely comfortable saying that any underage porn is creepy as fuck.

(Anonymous) 2016-01-03 07:47 am (UTC)(link)
Just a Devil's Advocate here--what if it's drawn/written by an underage person?

(Anonymous) 2016-01-03 10:33 am (UTC)(link)
Then they shouldn't be posting it on the internet to begin with.

That's not as bad, but if you're an adult and you're reading it, then that's creepy.

(Anonymous) 2016-01-03 10:53 am (UTC)(link)
Is this by any chance the Pokémon anime fandom? Because if so I think I know the artist you're talking about and I got the exact same feeling.

(Anonymous) 2016-01-03 07:13 pm (UTC)(link)
OP

...yeah it is. I didn't want to give the artist's name but we're probably thinking of the same person.

(But then, Ash seems to attract fans who perv on him as if he's 16-17 much, much more frequently than fans who perv in a shota/infantilizing way, for whatever reason, so maybe there's more than one of these artists out there.)
