...how does he not learn his lesson? He goes through a ton of changes.

Or do you mean a 40 year old man not being able to magically delete all his ingrained habits and assumptions means "not learning his lesson"?

Tony Stark is one of my favorite characters in the Marvel franchise, but there are problems. The things he atones for are very specific. He never atones for his actions in Iron Man 2 and never apologizes for the shitty things he's said and done to people. He only changes when it suits him.

instead of having Tony face the actual consequences, they literally rebooted his brain to a pre-Civil War backup. literally.

nayrt, wow, that's a peculiar writing choice. I could maybe see it if I were a new writer taking over and I didn't want to deal with the previous storyline, but it's still seems like a really stupid "reboot" button.

Actually, it's probably nothing new. I seem to recall that the original storyline (until Marvel execs over-ruled the writers) was that the solution to Jean Grey's Phoenix killing spree was just to remove her memory and powers.

But it would be a better, much more interesting storyline to actually DEAL with the fallout.

I know; I'm never sure if it's due to lazy writing or the rotating writing staff. But I hate the magical reset button. I think that with the comics, there's just a strong preference to "have exciting things happen" and also "maintain the status quo". So the only way to have your cake and eat it too is to use the reset button.

Eventually, when you get old enough, you realize you've read the same story regurgitated over and over, and just stop reading and move on. Yes, I'm just speaking for myself. :)

I just never see Tony as the big jerk/asshole/whatever people say he is. Now, this is movie-Tony, only, I've never read the comics.
