I have to agree. It can be really stressful in frequently-updated fandoms, having new canon information coming in all the time to keep up on.

Find yourself a small group for that fandom. Either a small comm or start a group chat.

I'm fine with new news and material...

...but I DEFINITELY sympathize with you about the ridiculous drama that some fans bring with them, and the whole, "My favorite character should get the most screen time! The other character(s) suck!" complaints (especially when those fans actually count up the amount of screen time each character gets. Seriously, people?). I love it when my favorite characters get screen time, too, absolutely, but I can live if another character's getting a storyline or some time in the spotlight, too.

Personally I prefer having lots of new material constantly coming in to having wide gaps between doses of new material, such that the fandom spends WAY too much of its time and energy inventing ridiculous meta and fan theories which get accepted as practically canon due to having nothing else to talk about

The more active, and larger, a fandom is the more wank and drama it generates sadly.

There's no way of stopping it though but maybe if you got some fandom friends or found a small group in the fandom you could chat with rather than delving into the main bulk of it that'd be better for you?

I get where you're coming from OP; I've been in big active fandoms from time to time, but usually end up dropping out of the fandom side of things for all the same sorts of reasons that you list. On the plus side, I can go back to it later when everything's calmed down, and there's still lots of fic and meta around for me to browse through even if I'm not actively participating.

I don't know that the perfect small fandom exists, unfortunately. For the most part I have the opposite problem, where nearly all my fandoms are smaller/older, and... well, they're mostly just dead. Limited amount of fanfic with nothing new on the horizon, not much in the way of discussion... if I try and throw out any myself, all I get back is the sound of crickets chirping. (And while I tell myself that just writing fanfic should be fulfilling enough without getting feedback... it's not. I can deal with lack of comments, but if nobody's even reading it, it just seems like such a waste of my time.)
