The richest people I've known/met wear khakis and sensible sneakers that you can get from any department store. Polo shirts from JC Penny's seem to be popular.

The poor people I meet always seem to have the trendiest clothes. It's a huge part of the reason they're poor.

Tbf, they said it's a big part of the reason, not the only reason. That's a huge part of the reason many rich people become poor also. Lotto winners, pro athletes, so forth

Definitely not the only reason.

Chasing after the latest and greatest, going into debt, not saving, all are huuuuuuge reasons people become poor.

You know, I can already see people are definitely going to read your comments like you're blaming all poor people for being poor...

So before people start raging, obviously it's not all poor people's fault for being poor. A lot of people never had the opportunity or education they deserve or got wrecked through bad luck or health issues, and if people are born poor or grow up poor it's hugely difficult to make it out. The economy and life are completely stacked against the poor and it's damn unfair. That's all true. That doesn't negate the fact that many people of every class become unnecessarily poor through the things you listed, too. Any dumb millionaire can blow all their money just like any middle class person can. Being smart with money is an important skill to have.

and I say that as a bleeding-heart liberal.
