hrmm I assumed it was them listing the books on the profile since OP mentioned the dating profiles

If they are listed as favorite books, then I don't see why that would be bad. Like, I fucking love the book Bunnicula. Nostalgic as hell about it.

Bunnicula isn't a book nearly everyone in our generation was forced to read in HS though

At least for me, it's not the perceived quality of the book, it's the lack of apparent breadth. If someone says their fave book is Bunnicula then I can assume they've read more than what their high school mandated. If their entire reading list of favorite books is off a HS curriculum then we probably won't have much to talk about. If their 4 favorite books are Catcher, Scarlet Letter, Crucible, and To Kill a Mockingbird... it's the "basic" of books

I just can't comprehend using that as a basis. But that is the point of the thread so you got me!

I can easily comprehend it if original anon is really into books. Someone who is really into music probably wouldn't be interested in someone whose favorite songs are the latest top 40s either, you know what I mean

Or if someone is an avid video gamer and someone lists their favorite video games as Candy Crush and Solitaire

It speaks to a lack of mutual interest
