I think I was the only person in my class who loved The Good Earth. That final scene hurts me in the heart.

I hated ANYTHING by Charles Dickens and Shakespeare.

I loved the Good Earth too! I felt SO sorry for O-lan.

I was homeschooled. I got about five pages into Tale of Two Cities, realized that the sentences were two pages long, and that there were grammatical errors all over the damn place (granted, grammar in Dickens' time would likely have been different, but I was 13). I told Dad I'd read it but the book would come back covered in red pen. He decided to find a good movie adaptation instead, likely because his only copy was one of those fancy leatherbound with gold page trim editions.. >_>
